Family immigration Detention Centers

Listen 00:48:42

Guests: Franco Ordonez, Matthew Archambeault, Dan Cadman

Immigration advocates are pressing the U.S. government to close the Berks County Residential Center and other immigrant family detention centers around the country. Lawyers are challenging the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency’s right to hold illegal immigrant children and the Obama administration’s use of the facilities as immigration deterrents. This hour, we look at family detention facilities and the controversy surrounding them. We’ll also take a look at how the government handled the large influx of Central American migrants over the past year. Guest host Mary Cummings-Jordan talks with FRANCO ORDONEZ, an immigration reporter for McClatchy Newspapers, MATTHEW ARCHAMBEAULT, an immigration lawyer representing some of the families at Berks County Residential Center, and DAN CADMAN, a research fellow with the Center for Immigration Studies.
