Election recovery

Listen 00:49:18

Guests: Nate Persily and Neil Irwin

While many people are elated with the election results, half the country is not – people are talking about feeling depressed, despondent, and angry.  We start off this hour talking about the impact the election has on voters, the political process, and our faith in democracy.   Marty’s guest is NATE PERSILY, a professor at Stanford Law School.  Then, news of Donald Trump’s victory shocked the world financial markets.  Across the globe, from the Dow Jones industrial average to Japan’s Nikkei index, stock, bond and currency markets took a nose dive but then recovered.  We start off this hour talking with NEIL IRWIN, senior economic correspondent for The New York Times’s The Upshot. He’ll discuss what Trump’s win means for the global economy and what we can glean about the President-elect’s likely fiscal policies.
