Egypt in crisis

Listen

Guests:  Nancy Youssef, Romesh Ratnesar and Joe Stork

Quite frankly, the situation in Egypt is a mess. For the past week the country has been in a state of emergency following the violent crackdown by the military government on Islamic supporters of former President Mohammed Morsi who was ousted from office by the military back in July. Nearly one thousand protestors against the current leadership have been killed. The battle between the two factions began in 2011 when Hosni Mubarak was forced to step down after thirty years in power. The U.S. has long supported the Egyptian government and now is in a bind. This morning on Radio Times we’ll deconstruct the crisis in Egypt and discuss U.S. policy options going forward. We’ll start off talking to McClatchy reporter based in Cairo, NANCY YOUSSEF. Then we’ll hear from ROMESH RATNESAR of Bloomberg Businessweek and JOE STORK from Human Rights Watch.
