Do debates really matter?

    Listen

    Hour 1

The stage is set, the  candidates have been prepped and their campaign advisers have been busy lowering expectations for the outcome of tonight’s presidential debate.   This evening, for the first time, voters will have a chance to see President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney side-by -side as they weigh in and challenge each other on domestic policy, especially as it relates to the economy.  What can we expect to hear tonight, what’s at stake and do debates even matter?  Our guests in this hour of Radio Times are political scientists ALAN SCHROEDER of Northeastern University and JOHN SIDES of George Washington.
