Become a Citizen Scientist

All you need is a computer and you can become a science researcher through the Zooniverse project, where anyone can find a way to become deeply involved doing actual astronomical research. A new addition to Zooniverse, Planet Hunters, where citizen scientists can become involved in the hunt for extra solar planets through images from the Kepler space craft. This may seem daunting, but to date two extra solar planets have been discovered by citizen scientists. Have you ever wished you could experience the Aurora Borealis? Well you might get the chance, as this nighttime phenomena may become more frequent in our region.  Now that we are working  toward the peak of solar activity in 2013 the chance that we will see activity this far south is increasing. Visit spaceweather.com to  keep an eye on this rare activity. Also, what can we expect in the fall sky. All this and more on this week’s Sky Talk.[audio: st20111003.mp3]
