Bassem Youssef: from surgeon to political satirist

Listen 49:15

Guest: Bassem Youssef

BASSEM YOUSSEF, dubbed the “Jon Stewart of the Arab World,” comes in to talk about his journey from heart surgeon to satirist during the Egyptian Revolution–from his early YouTube skits that he filmed in his laundry room, to hosting the most popular show in the Egypt AlBernameg, to his arrest for insulting President Morsi in 2013. Youssef offers his satirical take on the Arab Spring and how he uses comedy to confront the corruption and hypocrisy in Egypt. Marty will also talk to him about his book, Revolution for Dummies, his stage show, “The Joke is Mightier than the Sword,” and his new podcast “ReMade in America.”
