Ballot Talks: African-Americans and the GOP

Listen 00:48:44

Guests: Joe Watkins, Leah Wright Rigueur

On today’s edition of Ballot Talks: we take a look at the relationship between the Republican party and the African-American community. African Americans make up a mere two percent of the registered Republicans nationally and in 2012, only 6% of African-American voters pulled the lever for Republican Mitt Romney. We’ll hear from two guests about the history of African-American members of the GOP, what the party has to offer the African-American community, and get their perspectives on the 2016 GOP presidential primary. We’ll be joined by political commentator pastor JOE WATKINS, and Harvard assistant professor of public policy and author of The Loneliness of the Black Republican LEAH WRIGHT RIGUEUR.
