An update on Syria: continuing violence and a humanitarian disaster

Just days after world leaders meeting in Munich agreed to “a cessation of hostilities” in Syria, two hospitals were hit by Russian airstrikes leaving more than 50 people dead. The continuing violence has cast serious doubts on the possibility of a binding truce. By all accounts the civil war is becoming even more chaotic.  In the five year civil war, more than 250,000 Syrian have been killed and tens of millions displaced.  This hour we get an update on the situation in Syria from LIZ SLY, Washington Post Beirut bureau chief. Then, should the United States intervene in Syria and should it be doing more to stop the humanitarian disaster?  Marty talks with JOSHUA LANDIS, director of the Center for Middle East Studies and associate professor at the University of Oklahoma. He writes Syria Comment, a blog on Syrian politics, history and religion. She’ll also speak with Ambassador JAMES JEFFREY is the Philip Solondz distinguished fellow at The Washington Institute where he focuses on U.S. regional, diplomatic, and military strategy, as well as Turkey, Iraq, and Iran.
