He is known for his blending of Middle-Eastern music with bebop jazz, which he achieves to great acclaim with his group, The Two Rivers Ensemble. ElSaffar’s Iraqi heritage has informed the themes of his music. His most recent album “Crisis,” is a reference to the ongoing tumult in the Middle-East. He joins us to talk about his music, his forthcoming record, Rivers of Sound, and how he manages to blend music of Iraq with American jazz.
