A conversation with Michael Smerconish; then Bill Adair on the future of journalism

MICHAEL SMERCONISH announced last month that he is taking his syndicated, Philadelphia-based talk show to SiriusXM radio starting this Monday, April 15th.  Calling his style a “non-ideological brand of talk” he’s soured on conventional talk radio which he says, “like the GOP, caters to an audience that has become too white, too old, too male and too angry.”  Smerconish, who writes a column for the Philadelphia Inquirer and is a contributor to MSNBC, raised eyebrows when he announced in 2008, that for the first time since registering to vote as a Republican, he was supporting a Democrat, Barack Obama, for president. Since then he has switched his registration to Independent and has urged the GOP to become more moderate in order to appeal to suburban voters.   This morning, as Michael Smerconish prepares to expand his audience to a potential 24 million satellite radio listeners, Marty chats with him about talk radio, politics, and his career.  Then, a conversation with BILL ADAIR, founder and editor of the Pultizer Prize-winning PolitiFact about the future of journalism and his contributions to the fact-checking movement. He just announced he is leaving his post to teach journalism.
