AMOS OZ is one of Israel’s most acclaimed authors. He is the author of thirteen novels and collections of short fiction and numerous works of non-fiction that have been published in book form and in commentary. His most recent book, Scenes from Village Life ,which he calls a novel in stories, is set in an old and quaint Israeli town being transformed into a tourist destination with art galleries, boutiques and wineries. Through a series of interlinking vignettes, Oz tells the stories of the inner struggles of the town’s residents — their loneliness and unhappy relations — set against the backdrop of the mundane routines of daily life. Marty talks with Amos Oz about the book, his body of work, and the challenges facing Israel and the Middle East.
