Achieving financial independence

New economic statistics will be released next week, and with elections looming in the fall, the economy is sure to be a big topic. This week, First Look reports on a group who help would-be home buyers achieve financial independence and navigate the maze that sometimes accompanies the purchase of a home.

Jail Kitchen

For more than 30 years, thousands of inmates have been held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington. Prison officials recently opened the gates at the facility to show off the prison’s new kitchen facilities.

First Experience: First State Force Band

In 1988, a group of first responders in Delaware teamed up to bring musical performances to the public. Consisting of members from the ranks of law enforcement, fire, and EMT departments across Delaware, the First State Force Band shares an anti-drug message in their songs. We offer this bonus First Experience so you can learn more about the positive message they bring.

Sponsor-a-Pipe

A church in downtown Wilmington is in the process of rebuilding it’s 60-year old pipe organ and is trying to get the community involved. Members started a program where individuals can sponsor one of the organ’s pipes, with he hope of connecting the community to the project, and maybe even to the church itself.

State of Play

There’s one more week until the Delaware primary, so let’s talk about something besides Chip Flowers. Stephanie Hansen and Michael Stafford join us this week to look at the state of Delaware politics heading into the primary.

Labor Day weekend is upon us, so let’s head out to sea. Delaware’s tall ship, the Kalmar Nyckel, has a fun-time for kids. It should be a First Experience of a lifetime for anyone who wants to get some first-hand sailing experience. Let’s hoist the flags and head out to the Delaware Bay.
