Cave Canem Poet Iain Haley Pollock
ListenHour 2
Poet and teacher IAIN HALEY POLLOCK has won the prestigious 2010 Cave Canem Poetry Prize, a first-book award “dedicated to the discovery of exceptional manuscripts by African American poets.” Pollack’s collection of poetry, “Spit Back a Boy,” includes poems about boyhood, urban violence and living in a racially ambiguous body. He’ll discuss growing up biracial in upstate New York, and teaching 7th and 8th graders in a school where, along with good grammar, the topics of skin privilege and class are part of the classroom discussions.
