ZCC to vote March 2 on new code and to hold two more public meetings

The Zoning Code Commission announced this week that the vote to send its “preliminary report” to Philadelphia City Council will be held Wednesday, March 2. The ZCC has also scheduled two additional public meetings, for Friday, February 18 and Monday, February 28.

During last week’s ZCC meeting, stakeholders in the zoning revision process, from community groups to developers, complained vigorously that the commission had not given direct reasons for integrating feedback into the new code, or for rejecting it. The public meetings on February 18 and 28 are intended to address how the ZCC considered public comments in its rewrite of the code.

The ZCC’s “preliminary report” sends its draft of the new zoning code for City Council’s consideration. Once Council receives the report, it has 45 days to hold its first public hearing to discuss the new code, but the body is not bound to a specific deadline by which it must close such a hearing or hearings.

A full PDF of the blue-line draft (showing edits as of early February) of the code may be downloaded here, a “clean” PDF with the changes integrated may be downloaded here, and a summary of the most recent public comments to the ZCC, and the commissions responses to them, may be downloaded here.
