Work starts on latest downtown Wilmington residential building [video]

Construction is now underway on Buccini-Pollin Group’s latest residential project in downtown Wilmington, a pair of apartment buildings called The Residences at Mid-Town Park.

State and city leaders helped break ground on the $75 million project at 820 N. Orange St. on Monday morning. The site, which was once home to the Mid-Town Parking Garage, will soon be transformed into 200 apartment units, 12,000 sq. ft. of retail space and a 511 space parking garage.

“We are thrilled to finally be underway in this transformative project for Wilmington and it’s downtown,” said developer Rob Buccini with the Buccini-Pollin Group.

BPG has developed a number of residential projects at the Wilmington Riverfront, which is now home to more than 1,200 residents. In recent years, the developers have focused on adding residential units in downtown Wilmington. Earlier this year, BPG opened three separate buildings with 76 apartment units in downtown Wilmington.

“I don’t think we could have projected that we would have so many new residents, so many upwardly-mobile residents living in our buildings in this short of a time,” Buccini said. “We think we’re past the hard part for sure.”

The parking garage is expected to be completed by winter 2017. The apartment buildings should open in summer 2018.
