Wilmington’s homicide record

Wilmington now has more homicides in the city this year than it did last year.

The 27th homicide happened this morning when a man was found shot in the 1600 block of North Jessup Street in the city’s northeast section.  A passerby spotted the body just after 5:30am and called police.

Police started CPR on the victim and applied an automated external defibrillator.  It was at that time police saw the victim had been shot on the left side.  When paramedics came on the scene they pronounced the unidentified man dead.

In 2008 the city broke the existing homicide record with 26 deaths.  Wilmington Police are asking anyone who might have been near that intersection or someone who saw anything suspcious to contact the police department or crimestoppers.
