Three Wilmington fire stations will be renamed in honor of three firefighters who were killed in the line of duty.

Wilmington City Council voted unanimously on a resolution Thursday to dedicate Station No. 4 to Lt. Jerry Fickes, Station No. 5 to Senior Firefighter Ardythe Hope and Station No. 6 to Capt. Christopher Leach.

Fickes and Leach were killed while fighting a house fire on Sept. 24 that officials said was set intentionally. Hope was critically injured in the same fire, receiving burns to more than 70 percent of her body. She died from her injuries last week.

Councilman Bob Williams, who sponsored the resolution, says signs with the names will be “prominently placed” on the front of the stations.
