Wilmington ShopRite recalls ground beef

The grocery store is recalling 227 pounds of ground beef after customers noticed black and white pieces of plastic in the meat.

The meat was produced at the ShopRite store on 501 South Walnut Street in Wilmington on December 29.  The Delaware Department of Agriculture says the soaker pad that the meat sits on was inadvertently ground up with the beef.  There have been no reports of injury or illness.

The items being recalled include:

-73/13 packages of ShopRite ground beef with a sell by date of December 29,

-82/20 packages of ShopRite ground beef with a sell by date of December 29,

-85/15 packages of ShopRite ground beef with a sell by date of December 29,

-Meat loaf mix (beef, veal, pork) with a sell by date of December 29.

The Ag Department is performing checks to make sure that the recalled products are no longer available to customers.
