A large section of the area was blocked off while police investigated.

City leaders say the home where this shooting happened has long been a problem.

“It should be boarded up. L&I has cited them on several occasions. It’s just nonstop,” said Councilwoman Xanthia Oliver.

Across the street from the scene is senior housing, where Cheryl Elzey is the project manager.

“I told the guard, ‘It’s gunfire,’ and by the time we got out, the victim was sitting on the steps hollering, ‘I’m hit, I’m hit,” Elzey said.

With several shootings reported in this area over the years, with one just last week, she says residents are afraid to come outside.

“I have gunshot bullets all through my windows here, where gunshots have nicked the screen. This is not the first time, not by a long shot.”
