Wilmington, Delaware records 16th homicide of 2011

Wilmington police are investigating the shooting death of a 39-year-old man over the weekend.

Detectives say Ernie Cole of Wilmington was found lying on the sidewalk at East 17th Streets and North Thatcher Streets at 2:36 a.m. Sunday.  Cole was shot at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics.

This was the 16th reported homicide in Wilmington so far this year.  Last year, a record was set with 27 homicides in Wilmington.
