Manayunk Neighborhood Council wants to see the boundaries of the Main Street Special Services District expanded, reports Amy Z. Quinn for PlanPhilly/NewsWorks. Now that the special services district is up for reauthorization, neighbors think the boundaries should be changed to reflect Manayunk’s commercial mix, and that the district should focus more of its budget on cleaning up litter that spills over from Main Street into nearby residential neighborhoods.
Another Sunday night, another water main break. This time a 24-inch water main broke near the intersection of Willits and Ashton roads in Holme Circle. Witnesses told Action News that water shot into the air like a geyser 50-feet high. For the second Sunday in a row, a water-infrastructure rupture turned streets into rushing streams.
The fantastic Gretz Brewery complex in Kensington has been slapped with violations and a demolition threat from the Department of Licenses and Inspection, reports Naked Philly. Let’s hope this is a successful prod to Tony Rufo – a Conshohocken-based developer connected to the LP that owns the property – to correct the violations. Its Our Money recently reported that after the Buck fire Rufo paid $21,000 owed in taxes on the former brewery.
The Parking Authority is refunding $800,000 in red-light camera fines collected for violations at Island Avenue and Lindbergh Boulevard. The authority failed to post signs warning drivers about the cameras and wait the requisite 60 days before fining drivers. About 8000 fines were paid for violations from February 11-April 13, which will be given back.
Callowhill neighbors may be looking forward to new life at the Goldtex building, but for now they’re avoiding the tense construction site, reports NewsWorks. “I used to sort of walk through it because I feel like I should be able to walk down the street on my normal route with the dog, but it’s intimidating and I feel threatened by it,” said Sarah McEneaney who has long lived and worked in the neighborhood.
