Wife of man killed by police settles lawsuit against jail

The wife of a man whose fatal shooting by police was captured on video in southern New Jersey has settled a lawsuit for abuse he said he had suffered in jail.

A lawyer for Cumberland County told the Vineland Daily Journal that Lawanda Reid settled the suit that her husband, Jerame, had filed in 2011 for $340,000. The settlement was approved by the county last month and now needs final approval from a federal judge.

Jerame Reid was fatally shot by two police officers during a traffic stop in December. A wrongful death lawsuit is still pending.

He alleged in the separate lawsuit against the jail that he was brutally beaten by two county correction officers and that another let the abuse happen.
