Gingerbread House display among this weekend’s family-friendly events

Each Friday NewsWorks and Germantown Avenue Parents present this list of family-friendly activities happening in the Delaware Valley.

Ballet + Comedy = Coppelia.  This ballet is definitely family-friendly.  Enjoy the twists and turns as a mad inventor, a life-size dancing doll, a heroine, and her true love all cross paths.  The Metropolitan Ballet Company showcases pre-professional dancers with extraordinary talent.  Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.  Held at the auditorium at Abington Friends School, 575 Washington Lane, Jenkintown, PA.  Shows at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20.

The Roxborough Symphony Orchestra is holding a free concert on Saturday evening at 7:30pm.  Conductor Fawzi Habboushe will lead the all-volunteer orchestra in a classical and popular works concert.  Leverington Presbyterian Church, 6301 Ridge Ave., Roxborough.

Or get started early with the holidays:

Surround yourself with the Circle of Trees at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Chestnut Hill.  Friday from 6:30-7:30pm.  Yummy treats, hot cocoa, a special guest (hmmmm), and even the Mummers will help you get started with the holiday spirit.    Held at Christ Ascension Lutheran Church, 8300 Germantown Ave.  But don’t come empty handed; please bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots!

The Norwood Fontbonne Academy Parents Association Holiday Market runs Friday evening through Saturday afternoon.  Free admission and stocked with vendors from favorites like Discovery Toys, Usborune Books, Sweet Musings, and Stella & Dot Children’s Jewelry.  Held at the Fontbonne Commons, 8900 Norwood Avenue in Chestnut Hill:

The Waldorf School of Philadelphia is also hosting their Annual Holiday Fair on Friday and Saturday.  Beat the holiday rush with an opportunity for shopping, crafts, live entertainment and gourmet food.  Over 30 vendors:

Friday November 18th from 6:00p.m. – 10:00 p.m.Saturday, November 19th from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00p.m.

If you’re up for an even bigger shopping expedition, beat the holiday rush downtown and check out the Gingerbread House Display at in the Shops at Liberty Place Rotunda.  Now through November 30th.  See colorful gingerbread creations modeled after historic sites found throughout Fairmount Park, created by local pastry chefs- including Bredenbeck’s!
