Vineland dedicates memorial to local domestic abuse victims

Cumberland County, N.J. residents spent a sunny Saturday in Vineland’s Giampietro Park for the dedication of a domestic violence victims memorial.

Made possible by the 6-year-old “Tina’s Fund,” the Domestic Violence Memorial Garden remembers 15 people in the county who’ve died as a result of domestic abuse, including the fund’s namesake, Tina Labriola.

The South Jersey Times reports an act of domestic violence is committed every seven minutes and five seconds in New Jersey. The memorial also includes Sharon Bortle’s name. Bortle was shot by her husband in front of her children, and Frank Bortle was sentenced just two days before Saturday’s ceremony.
