Vigil planned in honor of veterans

A vigil to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in war is planned for Christmas Eve at Wilmington’s Vietnam Veterans memorial.

The ceremony begins Friday at 6:30 p.m. at 18th Street and Baynard Boulevard, where a scuplture created by Charles Parks shows one soldier carrying the body of a fallen comrade.  The Christmas Eve vigil started 25 years ago as a way to remember servicemen and women who lost their lives in the Vietnam War.  It has since expanded to pay tribute to fallen veterans of all conflicts.  The candlelight vigil includes prayers and Christmas carols, and is organized by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 83.
