Van Gogh, Dali to line Germantown Avenue through summer

Replicated masterpieces from the Philadelphia Museum of Art have been brought to pop-up exhibitions along Germantown Avenue in Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill.

Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill are two of 10 communities in the region receiving large-scale framed replicas representing masterpieces from the Museum’s vast collection.

The movement is part of Inside Out, a major national arts initiative funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Chestnut Hill’s collection will also include eight pieces of artwork from Woodmere Art Museum, the only art museum dedicated to Philadelphia art and artists. Five of the pieces will be partnered with the Museum of Art’s masterpieces highlighting the Philadelphia artists’ inspiration from the pieces within the Art Museum.

On Wednesday residents and visitors of the area were able to take a trolley tour of select masterpiece replicas along Germantown Avenue.  Executive Director of the Chestnut Hill Business District, Martha Sharkey said brochures are available at the welcome center and businesses throughout the district

“People here are in touch with the art world and this project is a great addition to the community.”
