Trying something new
Two items of interest involving the Philadelphia Daily News, my beloved former employer:
First, I recently got an e-mail pitch to subscribe to the new digital version of the Daily News, with rates that make it clear I don’t get the e-version for free, even though I’m a long-time home subscriber.
This was about a week after I got a card in the mail from the New York Times explaining how I, as a home subscriber, can get free, unlimited access to their internet product when they begin charging for it.
I vented my feelings about the Daily News and Inquirer policy on this in an earlier post.
Second, I’m wondering if the Daily News has gone far enough towards becoming the “loud, irreverent and fun tabloid” its new owners promised it would be. A Monday item in Dan Gross’s Dan About Town column certainly pushes the envelope. If you dare, go this link and read the item headlined, “Stalberg has a new skill.”
The item was touted on the cover of the newspaper with the headline: “Stalberg changes his stroke.”
