Trenton ordered to reinstate park ranger

The New Jersey Civil Service Commission has ordered Trenton to rehire a laid off park ranger, saying he was ousted two years ago for political reasons.

The commission says Mayor Tony Mack fired head park ranger Michael Morris to make room for a campaign worker and confidant.

In its ruling Wednesday, the commission says Robert “Chico” Mendez, who was given the job, must be terminated.

This is the second time Mack has laid off Morris and the commission has ordered him rehired.

This time, the commission said the city had an “invidious motivation” for the layoff.
