Tree Germantown volunteers leave their mark on neighborhood streets [gallery]

To mark Tree Germantown’s first planting of 2013, volunteers fanned out across the neighborhood on Saturday to plant 16 trees along several streets including Baynton and West Rockland.

More than two dozen volunteers met at Vernon Park before breaking off into smaller groups in support of an “organization dedicated to restoring and preserving the tree canopy in the historic Germantown section of Philadelphia.” The group included a sizable contingent from La Salle University.

Tree Germantown‘s Aine Doley said the plantings on West Rockland, where she lives, were particularly noteworthy as the two-tree block hasn’t seen a new one in years.

“We want to plant on a grid in the future to increase the impact of the plantings and health of the trees,” she said.
