Township moves to ban drilling near homes in Pa.

A western Pennsylvania township has created an advisory board on gas drilling and authorized restrictions on such development on residential and commercial property.

But the action by Butler Township commissioners would not apply to the Krendale Golf Course well pad that Rex Energy received approval for last month that could house as many as nine wells.

Some residents have voiced concerns about possible pollution from the drilling and have said they object to the proximity of the Krendale wells to homes, businesses and schools.

The Butler Eagle reports that more than a half-dozen people repeated their concerns at Monday’s hearing and asked what evacuation plans were in effect in case of emergencies.
