Top 4 stories to watch for in NW Philly

Here’s a look at what’s to come this week:

1. On Tuesday, East Mt. Airy Neighbors will hold its first general meeting following a summer recess. On the agenda will be a number of property-related issues, including a couple of abandoned buildings and a new supermarket planned for the corner of Washington Lane and Chew Avenue. Check back this week for more details.

2. The public school calendar kicked off on Friday. We’ll check in with students and staff at Roxborough High School to learn more about what lies ahead at the Ridge Avenue site. Principal Stephen Brandt has been working hard to change neighborhood perceptions of the school.

3. The East Falls Community Council will hold a general meeting Monday night. On tap, is a presentation from the civic’s Friends of Mifflin School Committee. The group has partnered with the elementary school to improve its neighborhood image. Folks from Cloud 9, a rooftop gardening outfit will also address the audience.

4. Germantown photographer Gary Reed will lead a second Photo Walk event in the neighborhood on Saturday. This time, a group of image enthusiasts explored Lower Germantown. Check back this week to see what they found as they roamed the historic section.
