Threats made against more schools in Delaware

State Police and local police K9s were called to three more schools in Delaware on Tuesday.

Police said the threats were made around 9:30 a.m. this morning at the following schools: 

Long Neck Elementary School, 26064 School Lane, Millsboro, DE
Woodbridge High School, 14712 Woodbridge Road, Greenwood, DE
Silver Lake Elementary School 200 East Cochran Street, Middletown, DE

In each of the cases, the schools’ offices received robo-style or computer generated voice phone calls.

DSP spokesman Master Corporal Gary Fournier said at Long Neck Elementary, the caller stated he was armed and on the roof of the school. The caller threatened to do harm to the students and faculty.

Fournier said students there were immediately placed on lockdown before being evacuated. Troopers and a K9 unit from the Capitol Police Department responded. DSP also conducted an aerial search of the school and the grounds with nothing suspicious located. 

The students were bussed back to the school to resume their school day.

According to Silver Lake Elementary School’s website, the school received a robo-call warning of a bomb threat.

“We evacuated students onto buses where they could safely shelter while the Delaware State Police conduct a sweep of the building to determine that it is safe to re-enter,” the announcement stated.

Fournier said nothing out of the ordinary or suspicious was located there. Students and staff were allowed back into their school upon the completion of the search and resumed their daily activities.

Woodbridge High School did not have students in the school today, although teachers and administrators were there. They were temporarily evacuated, and again, nothing suspicious was found.

Last week, similar robo-style bomb threats were made against a dozen schools across the state prompting school evacuations. Police said nothing suspicious was found at any of those schools.

In an email, Fournier said while there are obvious similarities among all of the incidents, it’s still too early to connect them all.

Meantime, state Senator Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, issued a statement, Tuesday, rebuking the “cowards” responsible. 

“Your actions are despicable and when you are discovered you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It is only a matter of time until your arrogance and mean spiritedness catch up with you and when they do, please be mindful of the fact that in choosing to use our children to spread your fear, patience and understanding as to your reasoning will be difficult to bestow. We will find you,” Lopez warned.
