The lyrics to ‘Take Me Back to Manayunk’

“The Manayunk Club,” one of the movies in the 14th annual Street Movies Film Festival in Roxborough, featured a song called “Take Me Back to Manayunk.” A reader wrote in to request the lyrics of the song. Here’s our answer.

Back in August, we wrote about the 14th annual Street Movies Film Festival in Roxborough. One of the movies showcased in the series was “The Manayunk Club,” which was produced by the Manayunk Neighborhood Council in 2004 as part of the Scribe Precious Places series.

Earlier this month, one of our readers, Sarah Cahill, wrote in to request the lyrics of the song “Take Me Back to Manayunk,” which is featured in the 11-minute film.

We reached out to Kevin Smith, president of the Manayunk Neighborhood Council to see if he could help. Not only did he send us the lyrics, but he included the sheet music and an audio file of the original song sung by Emily Joy Schiff-Glenn, accompanied by Scott Coulter.

Here are the lyrics:

Take me back to Manayunk, Manayunk, Manayunk

That’s where I long to be

Where the hills look good to me

Walking up and down Main Street

Running around in my bare feet

Oh there’s rocks and there’s rilles and there’s plenty of hills.

But Manayunk for me!

If you’ve never heard it before, be sure to give it a listen. We hope this helps, Sarah — and thanks for reading!
