Sussex celebrates the Fourth of July

Delaware’s beaches and beyond will be packed this Fourth of July with parades and fireworks on tap to help celebrate.

The Independence Day celebration starts in Sussex County at 11 a.m. in Laurel with the red, white and blue parade, a car show, pie eating contest and more.  Fireworks start at dusk.

The Bethany Beach parade starts at noon.  Other events in Bethany include horseshoe throwing contest, a blueberry pie eating contest, and bands performing.  Fireworks in Bethany will go off at dusk.

Some 80,000 people are expected at Rehoboth Beach’s fireworks, which will launch around 9:15 p.m.  The fireworks will be launched from the beach and will be seen from all along the boardwalk and shoreline.  The fireworks display will be followed by a concert at the bandstand.
