Here are the details for Thursday’s Eagles Super Bowl parade in Philly

The parade will start at 11 a.m. on Broad Street near the stadiums. It will move north along the city’s main thoroughfare, past City Hall and finish at the art museum’s “Rocky Steps.” The whole trip is supposed to be complete in about an hour, so those along the parade route will get only a quick view of the team and the Lombardi Trophy.

Don Smolenski of the Eagles said the parade is a way to say thanks to the fans who have stuck with the team for decades.

“With this parade on Thursday it’s an opportunity for us our players our staff to take in all that enthusiasm,” he said.

The formal program included speeches from dignitaries and players will begin at 1pm.

The perimeter of the parade route will be “firmly secured” according to city officials. This means attendees will need to pass through secured entrances. Officials also warned attendees to “be prepared to walk” whether you drive or take public transportation.  Access to the site will be limited by the perimeter.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said he’s calling in all the personnel he can.

“We’ll have officers in preventive patrol assignments in uniform and out so that we’ll be able to detect anything that seems to be out of order,” he said. “We’ll have people all over, on foot in vehicles in the air.”

Weather forecasters predict a sunny day, with temperatures reaching the mid-30s.

Immediately, faithful fans began brainstorming how they’d skip work unnoticed to attend the parade, or for those out of town, get here on time for it. But many employers will make it easy for fans to get there: They’re planning to close down on Thursday.

Slated to close are: all Philadelphia administrative offices and courts; the School District of Philadelphia; all Archdiocese of Philadelphia schools in the five-county area; various suburban and private schools including Upper Darby School District, Malvern Prep, Woodlynde School in Strafford, and the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and the South Philly branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia.

Parade-goers will be treated to free beer and ice cream on Thursday, thanks to Budweiser and Shake Shack.

Road closures will begin today in areas around the Art Museum and will ramp up through Thursday morning at 5am with the rest of the closures phased in later in the morning. Streets are scheduled to reopen by 6pm and things are supposed to be back to normal for the Friday morning commute.

Mayor Jim Kenney is hopeful finishing at the Art Museum instead of at the stadium in South Philly will make it easier for people to leave. There were massive delays after the 2008 Phillies parade was over.

“Everybody flooded the subways, they could not function people couldn’t get onto the platforms,” Kenney said. “What we are hoping is that this large crowd ending at this point will be able to disperse north south east and west even if they have to walk some ways instead of flooding the system at broad and Pattison.”

Independence Blue Cross will be sponsoring free rides on the El and the Broad Street line for people to get to the parade.

City officials are encouraging people not to bring backpacks since they will checked as you cross security.

Mayor Kenney urged people to “leave your backpacks and beer” home and asked “knuckleheads” to stay home too.

Service on SEPTA regional rail into the city will be limited to Jefferson and 30th street station. All other center city stations closed Thursday during parade.

Also, only select regional rail stations will be open on Thursday, but the list is considerably longer than were open for travel the weekend Pope Francis came to Philadelphia.

Tuesday, February 6 & Wednesday, February 7

The inner lanes (inbound and outbound) of Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be closed from Eakins Oval to 20th Street will be closed from 10:00AM-3:00PM and 6:00PM-10:00PM on Tuesday, February 6th and Wednesday, February 7th.  This closure will not be in effect during AM and PM rush hours, and cross streets will remain open to traffic throughout.

Thursday, February 8

The following streets will be closed according to the schedules listed below.

The inner lanes (inbound and outbound) of Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be closed from Eakins Oval to 20th Street will be closed from 6:00PM on Thursday, February 8th into the overnight hours.  Cross streets will remain open to traffic throughout, and all roads will be open prior to the AM rush hour on Friday, February 9th.

Cross streets will be reopened south to north on Broad Street, and elsewhere along the parade route, as early as conditions allow on Thursday, February 8th.

On-Street Parking Restrictions

Temporary no parking restrictions along the parade route and on adjacent streets will commence at 6:00PM on Wednesday, February 7th.  The full extent of these restrictions will be in place until approximately 6:00PM on Thursday, February 8th.  A complete list of impacted streets can be found below:

Please obey all “Temporary No Parking” signs.  Vehicles parked in these locations during posted hours will be relocated.

There will be no enforcement of meter and time limit regulations on the day of the parade, Thursday, February 8th, 2018. Safety violations such as parking too close to the corner, fire hydrants, blocking crosswalks and double parking will be enforced. The Impoundment Lot located at 2501 Weccacoe Avenue will stay open until midnight on Wednesday for the release of vehicles. No vehicles will be released on Thursday.
