Sunset on the Delaware River [slideshow]
On Wednesday evening we had the pleasure of cruising the Delaware River with about 140 PlanPhilly readers and waterfront boosters for a tour of the Central Delaware Waterfront. This Behind PlanPhilly tour was led by PennPraxis Executive Director Harris Steinberg, Delaware River Waterfront Corporation President Tom Corcoran, and historian Steve Ujifusa who spoke about S.S. United States.
Though it was raining horizontally before we embarked, the evening turned out to be perfect. First we headed north, passing Penn Treaty Park and the PECO plant, the Conrail lands, the Lehigh Viaduct, and Petty’s Island. Southbound we passed the Race Street Pier, Center City and paused for an up-close view of the S.S. United States. The rain left behind beautiful clouds for the light to play off of and the framed dramatic skyline silhouettes. The S.S. United States looked like a romantic ruin at sunset. Here’s a peek at our evening on the river:
A special thanks to Ben Franklin Yacht Cruises, Steve Ujifusa, Tom Corcoran, and Harris Steinberg for a fantastic evening.
