‘Spirit of Uganda’ comes to Penn Charter [gallery]

On Wednesday night, the African youth performance troupe “Spirit of Uganda” brought its North American tour to William Penn Charter School’s Kurtz Center for the Performing Arts.

Alexis Hefley, of Empower African Children, produces the show with the help of its founding artistic director, Peter Kasule, a Kampala native who lost his own parents to AIDS.

All proceeds from ticket sales went to Hefley’s group, which provides scholarships to Ugandan orphans to with their education and boarding-house needs.

This year’s annual tour, for which the youths travel via motor coach, ends on March 22.
