Southern Delaware senate race draws several candidates

A newly-created State Senate district in Sussex County will be contested by several candidates.

2010 Republican candidate for U.S. House Glen Urquhart is kicking off his candidacy today in the 6th district, according to The Cape Gazette.  Ernesto Lopez has also entered the race, and will square off against Urquhart in the GOP primary September 11th.  Urquhart lost the statewide race in November 2010 to current Congressman John Carney.  According to WGMD Radio, former Democratic congressional candidate Mike Miller is also expected to join the race, and would meet another announced Democratic candidate, Andy Staton, in the primary.  The 6th district was relocated to southern Delaware during last year’s redistricting process to reflect population changes documented in the 2010 US Census.
