Some New Jersey Sanders supporters warming to Clinton

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ New Jersey backers are coming around to the idea of supporting Democrat Hillary Clinton for president in November.

The support comes after Sanders addressed convention delegates just hours before Democrats were set to open this week’s Democratic National Convention.

Assemblyman John Wisniewski, who chaired Sanders’ effort in New Jersey, said he is following Sanders’ lead in supporting Clinton. He says it’s where the party is headed.

Some in the room, though, jeered and booed when Sanders called on his supporters to back Clinton.

Jim Keady, a tavern owner and Sanders supporter, says he sat in “pained silence” when Sanders encouraged backing Clinton. But he says a Democratic president is more likely to help poorer citizens than a Republican and that Donald Trump “has to be stopped.”
