Senior Health Fair scheduled for Friday at Germantown’s Center in the Park

State Rep. John Myers (D-201st) will host his annual Senior Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Center in the Park.

Myers chief-of-staff Pat Tisdale said the event was created to help senior citizens, who are the neediest in the area, with various health-care issues.

“A lot of seniors can’t get out or don’t have someone to take them to their regular doctors. Even just a blood-pressure screening will maybe detect something, and we are bringing it to their front door,” said Tisdale. “We feel that’s important that our seniors have accessibility to some health care.”

Tisdale said that more than a dozen vendors will be in attendance including the Greater Philadelphia Health Action, the Lupus Foundation of America, Aetna Medicare and Neighborhood Interfaith Movement. Fresh Grocer will donate fruit trays and water for the event.

In addition to blood pressure readings and glucose screenings, attendees will also be able to get information and brochures.

“Information is key,” Tisdale said. “It’s best to be more informed than not.”

Myers did not seek re-election this year. His former chief-of-staff Stephen Kinsey won the Democratic Primary and is expected to assume Myers’ seat in Harrisburg in January.
