Roxborough school in danger of losing prized music teacher

The numbers don’t lie. An estimated $629 million budget gap and 3,820 jobs in jeopardy mean the School District of Philadelphia is in trouble. Everyone is looking at cuts, including Roxborough’s Shawmont School.

As Peter Crimmins reports for WHYY, the school could lose Hugh Williamson, who directs the school’s jazz ensemble the concert band and the pit orchestra — three main attractions for students and their parents.

Williamson and his Shawmont colleagues don’t know yet if the cuts are definite, but they’re preparing for the worst.
