Roxborough High’s big day: 2011 Commencement

Roxborough High School enjoyed a sunny end to a trying school year Wednesday, as perfect weather washed over its Class of 2011 at outdoor graduation ceremonies on Westerman Field.

The school held together during an emotional year in which several of its students died.

This year’s valedictorian was Pearlenia Tillman, who received a full scholarship to Howard University. The salutatorian was Camille Michel. She’ll be attending Penn State’s main campus.

This year’s graduating senior class was 125. Principal Stephen Brandt says “a high percentage” of the senior class graduated, but did not have the exact number readily available.

Brandt says Roxborough’s new graduates now have an educational foundation that they can build on.

“It’s a great accomplishment for any young adult to graduate high school,” he said. “And hopefully this monumental accomplishment will serve as a foundation for greater things and successes ahead.”
