Roller derby’s local legends

It was a roller derby reunion of the highest order last weekend in Philadelphia.

Legends mingled with novices at the Penn Jersey Roller Derby League practice facility in North Philly for a Roller Derby Hall of Fame celebration.

As a part of the festivities, the League members skated under the tutelage of Hall-of-Famers like ‘Pretty’ Judy Arnold, ‘Little’ Richard Brown and ‘Queen of Mean’ Judy Sowinski.

Sowinski’s more than just a legend, though. She’s a current coach with the League, and she hopes all this Hall-of-Fame fuss brings the attention and interest to Roller Derby she thinks it deserves.
