Now in banktruptcy, Revel to bring back smoking
The latest addition to Atlantic City’s skyline is continuing forward with a pre-packaged bankruptcy.
As the Revel casino finalized a deal with its creditors, it is also making changes on the casino floor.
One of the most-talked-about features of Revel when it opened was that it was a smoke-free zone. The upscale casino-resort made a point of banning cigarettes.
But Revel, which has not attracted Atlantic City’s regulars, has found it can’t break even without them. So, Revel will now allow patrons to smoke on part of the gaming floor. The casino will also bring in new marketing and events in an effort to draw crowds.
After Revel submitted its bankruptcy paperwork, ratings agency Moody’s downgraded the company’s credit rating.
Atlantic City’s fortunes have fallen as a whole behind new regional competition, finally surpassed by Pennsylvania as the second-biggest gaming market in the country after Las Vegas.
