Rep. Parker announces bid for Councilwoman Tasco’s soon-to-be vacant city seat

State Rep. Cherelle Parker announced her run for the Ninth District of city council on Saturday.

She is looking to take the spot of current Ninth District Councilwoman Marian Tasco, who is retiring after 30 years in City Hall.

In attendance were former Gov. Ed Rendell, State Sen. Shirley Kitchen, candidate for council at-large Helen Gym, state Rep. Dwight Evans, mayoral candidate Jim Kenney, Eighth District Councilwoman Cindy Bass and others.

A message of support from Mayor Michael Nutter was played over the loudspeakers. Nutter was in Washington, DC for a Democratic Committee meeting.

Tasco suggested Parker fill her position in January.

“[Parker] worked here in this office, she knows the district, she’s worked the district and we won’t miss a beat because our philosophies are the same,” said Tasco.
