The Penguins topped the Flyers in the Eastern Conference finals last spring, before losing the Stanley Cup to Detroit.
Then the Phillies won the World Series, the Steelers took a record sixth Super Bowl title, and now Villanova is in the Final Four after a win over Pitt.
Governor Rendell is making the case that there’s never been a better time to follow Pennsylvania sports teams.
Rendell: I think the games this past weekend showed any one of those four teams could win it all, so Villanova could probably win it all. It probably is the best stretch in Pennsylvania history.
If Villanova makes it to the NCAA championship, Rendell says he’ll fly out to Detroit.
The governor is also confident the Penguins and Flyers will both contend for the Stanley Cup again this spring.
And he is also hoping the good luck run will rub off on the Pirates, predicting they will have a winning record this year.
