Real to Reel. Looking back at 2011

We are taking a whole new approach in presenting the Year in Review as it pertains to the the built environment in Philadelphia.

As we did last year, we now head to the photo and video archives and began reviewing coverage in order to produce an audio and visual re-creation of 2011.

But this time around we gave you more – a week’s worth of reflection about the top stories that appeared in PlanPhilly through the lens of each beat reporter.

Beginning Tuesday Dec. 20 and running through this week, we highlighted reporting by Steve Ujifusa (SS United States), Jared Brey (zoning), Anthony Campisi (transportation), JoAnn Greco (design, architecture and public space), Patrick Kerkstra (property tax delinquency, school closings), Kellie Patrick Gates (planning and the waterfront), Alan Jaffe (preservation), Amy Z. Quinn (Newsworks/Northwest Philadelphia), and PhiladelphiaNeighborhoods interns Kara Savidge and Christine Fisher (Philadelphia Housing Authority auctions, Mantua, Parkside and Philadelphia 2035).

And that is not all. The PlanPhilly blog Eyes on the Street, edited by Ashley Hahn, produced its own look back at 2011 in the form of a wish list.

So please kick back and enjoy. We didn’t include everything that was covered but these are some of our favorite highlights. If you think we missed something especially significant, give me an email shout-out.

And, lastly, a hearty thank you to the planners, developers, politicians, concerned citizens, academics, preservationists, architects, real estate attorneys and archaeologists we covered in 2011.
