Price of safety

Susan Philips is at today’s School Reform Commission hearing, where an announcement is expected about a settlement in last year’s South Philadelphia High School attacks. Susan reports: Sources say the Philadelphia School District and the Department of Justice are expected to announce a settlement regarding South Philadelphia High School.

The school became the subject of a federal civil rights complaint after more than two dozen Asian students were attacked by their African American peers in a single day last year. Both students and Asian community leaders said the attacks were racially motivated. The incident prompted a week-long boycott of the school by Asian students.

Susan will have a full report after the meeting.
