Woman whose body was found near Wister Station identified

The woman whose body was found wrapped in a sheet in a field off of the 5100 block of Rufe St. in Germantown on Monday has been identified as Candace Holmes, 27, of West Oak Lane.

Police said Holmes, who lived on the 6700 block of N. 17th St., had been strangled prior to a passerby finding her body around dinnertime on Monday.

The grisly discovery took place on a block near Wister Street which neighbors had gathered for a clean-up effort on Saturday.

Police did not have any further information on Thursday about a potential suspect or the circumstances leading up to Holmes’ death. In 2009, Holmes received seven years probation after pleading guilty to an arson with “danger of death or bodily injury” charge.
