Attempted car thief who shot at police in East Germantown still on the loose

Police responded to a call of someone breaking into a car on the 300 block of E. Elwood St. in East Germantown at about 6 a.m. Wednesday and when officers confronted the man, he allegedly fired several shots at them. Police did not fire back, and no one was injured.

With police dogs leading the way, they arrested a man one block away, on the 300 block of Shedaker Street, an hour later and initially believed he was the suspect. They were wrong.

“After conducting a through investigation, Northwest Detectives has determined that the male who was taken into custody this morning for aggravated assault against police in the 14th District (300 Elwood Street) is not the male who shot at police,” a media alert issued Wednesday night stated. “Northwest Detectives is currently pursuing several leads to identify the offender.”
